The financial sector is at risk from criminal abuse. Criminal activity relies on concealing and laundering illicit financial flows. Countering money laundering and terrorism financing (ML/TF) contributes to a safer and more secure Australia. However, the task is made harder by a rapidly evolving financial sector. Globalization continues to expand and complicate financial flows, and exponential change in technology makes predicting the future payments landscape difficult. New entrants and new value exchange models will continue to require new approaches. The fast moving environment brings challenges. It also brings the opportunity for a new collaborative relationship with the financial sector, and domestic and international partners, to protect the integrity of the future financial system.
